Unsere Arbeit vor Ort - aufbereitet in neun Service Offers

Seit 2016 verbessert Sanitation for Millions den Zugang zu sicheren sanitären Einrichtungen und Hygiene durch Maßnahmen vor Ort in den Partnerländern. Das Wissen und die Erfahrungen aus der operativen Projektumsetzung wurden von Teammitgliedern in den Partnerländern sowie der Zentrale in Deutschland aufbereitet, inklusive Feedbackschleifen mit den Partnern vor Ort. Das Ergebnis sind neun hochwertige und praxisorientierte Service Offers zu den Kernthemen des Projekts. Menstrual Hygiene Management - Awareness Raising and Knowledge Sharing in Public Institutions

This service offer contributes to the achievement of multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6.2 (equitable sanitation), SDG 3 (good health), SDG 4 (quality education), and SDG 5 (gender equality).

It focuses on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) at the community level, especially in public institutions. It provides essential background information, critical minimum standards, and the necessary steps for implementation. The content is informed by the practical experience of the ‚Sanitation for Millions‘ programme. It is part of a series of service offers developed by the programme as part of a commission from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in 2022. Sustainable Operation and Maintenance of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Infrastructure in Public Institutions

This service offer contributes to the achievement of multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6.2 (equitable sanitation), SDG 3 (good health), SDG 4 (quality education), and SDG 5 (gender equality).

This service offer dives deep into crucial thematic areas necessary for the sustainable operation and maintenance (O&M) of WASH infrastructure. Drawing from successful implementation in Jordan, Pakistan, Uganda, and Colombia, the service offer ensures tangible results and lasting impacts. Through targeted capacity development measures, institutions can foster a culture of cleanliness, hygiene, and health.

This service offer empowers institutions to tackle repair needs swiftly and implement preventive measures against infectious diseases. Central to this approach is the development of human capacity. Through specialized trainings, caretakers are equipped with the skills and motivation to address technical challenges effectively, thus enhancing livelihoods and fostering economic growth. Impact extends beyond individual institutions.

By partnering with national training authorities, the adoption of the methods at a broader scale is facilitated, contributing to national standards and certifications. By integrating sanitation safety planning and optimizing appropriate O&M mechanisms of off-site infrastructure, environmental sustainability and public health on a larger scale is promoted.

Hygiene Awareness and Behaviour Change Communication

This service offer contributes to the achievement of multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6.2 (equitable sanitation), SDG 3 (good health), and SDG 4 (quality education).

It focuses on measures to sensitize and spread knowledge about hygiene topics, fostering hygiene awareness and anchoring safe hygiene practices. Hygiene awareness and behaviour change are vital for improving public health, especially for vulnerable populations. Focusing on public institutions—such as schools, healthcare facilities, and faith-based organizations—is key to embedding these practices at the core of communities.

This service offer provides essential background information, critical minimum standards, and the necessary steps for implementation. The content is informed by the practical experience of the ‚Sanitation for Millions‘ programme. It is part of a series of service offers developed by the programme as part of a commission from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in 2022. This service also includes information on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), but there are two other service offers dedicated specifically to MHM (MHM on community level and MHM on policy level).

Toilets Making the Grade® – A School Competition for Self-driven Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Improvements

This service offer contributes to the achievement of multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6.2 (equitable sanitation), SDG 3 (good health), SDG 4 (quality education), and SDG 5 (gender equality).

The Toilets Making the Grade® (TMG) competition helps schools to address sanitation and hygiene challenges through self-assessment, guiding them to meet global and national standards like the 3-star approach. In a playful way, students and other school actors form teams to develop and implement their own solutions. By involving local and national governments, TMG fosters a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) systems approach, enhancing awareness and skills. The competition provides new insights to implementers and government staff, improving WASH investments in schools. It has high potential for strong publicity outcomes on WASH in schools. Originally developed in Germany, TMG has been adapted internationally and is implemented jointly with the German Toilet Organization (GTO).
